Agerskov Kro & Hotel, South Jutland

This place dates back to 1767 and is one of the most renowned and well-run inns in Denmark. You’ll find a genuine, traditional atmosphere here, with grandfather clocks, patterned wallpaper, Danish blue enamelware and table lamps, plus good Danish farmhouse cuisine. Bodil and Peter Otte have been the hosts here for 41 years and visitors voted it Hotel of the Year in 2016.

Kongensbro Kro, East Jutland

With Denmark’s longest river, Gudenåen, running through the back garden, Kongensbro Kro is beautifully situated. There’s been an inn here since 1663, and it’s now run by the second and third generation of the Andersen family. Kongensbro Kro is renowned for its food – the grand old lady of the family, Else Andersen, has written eight books about restaurant cuisine and regional dishes. The menu here ranges from homemade meatballs and unforgettable mushroom soup, to French specialties.

Falslef Kro, Fyn

Falsled Kro is on Fyn, a thatched roof island of the most beautiful kind. The grounds have gnarled fruit trees, rose bushes and a 1,000sq m kitchen garden that supplies the restaurant with vegetables. It’s been an inn since 1851, and is renowned for its gastronomy, based on local produce such as Fyn asparagus and smoked salmon.

Schackenborg Slotskro, South Jutland

The idyllic rural village of Møgeltønder has been home to one of the most famous inns in Denmark since 1687. Schackenborg Castle is the closest neighbor, and with sea, salt marshes and golf courses in the area, plenty of clear blue skies and ­n­ature experiences await you.

Hotel Frederiksminde, South Zealand

Henne Kirkeby Kro, Jutland

When Henne Kirkeby Kro was awarded a second Michelin star in 2017, it became the most famous inn in Denmark. Chef Paul ­Cunningham’s menu uses local, seasonal produce and ingredients from the inn’s 200-year-old kitchen garden. Beautifully renovated with the addition of new luxury rooms, a couple of kilometers from Henne Strand.

Molskroen, Jutland 

Molskroen is beautifully situated, close to Mols National Park, with access to a delightful beach. The inn is renowned for its high standards and has had Danish gastro stars, such as Michel ­Michaud and Wassim Hallal at the helm. Today, Steffen Villadsen is taking the French cuisine to new heights. A beautiful half-­timbered building with delightful rooms, many with sea views.
